Fall prevention in older adults

After completing the course, you will be able to:
• explain the prevalence and consequences of falls among older adults, and their significance for the health, functional ability, and quality of life of older people
• identify and structure the key risk factors for falls
• describe the core principles of fall prevention and evidence‑based preventive methods
• assess an older person’s risk of falling using appropriate assessment tools
• analyze individual and environmental fall risks
• apply evidence‑based knowledge in fall prevention

This course has been produced as part of the national GEROS project in Finland. The project involves Metropolia University of Applied Sciences, Karelia University of Applied Sciences, Lapland University of Applied Sciences, South Eastern Finland University of Applied Sciences, Satakunta University of Applied Sciences, and Seinäjoki University of Applied Sciences, all of which are members of the AMK Network for Ageing Competence.
