Basics of the history of Western art music I, online course ENG

Learning outcomes for the history of music module (8 cr):
Students who have completed the unit are expected to be familiar with a wide range of music and to be able to identify stylistic development trends in classical music, musical genres and the historical and context-bound nature of musical concepts and views.
Students are expected to be able to analyse listening experiences and scores from a historical perspective and to broaden their awareness of music beyond the repertoire of their own instrument.

Students’ studies in the history of music are closely connected to their artistic work, their studies in their main subject and other subjects. Through this unit, students also gain the capability to study independently to broaden their knowledge and awareness of the history of music.
History studies also allow students to practise their skills in reflecting on the history of music, orally and in writing, and to learn how to examine the music they perform, hear and teach within the context of the history of music.

All course materials are in moodle and students submit all assignments there.

At least 3 places will be offered to the Open University. Open University participants will be selected for the course in the order of registration.
