The student who has completed the course

• Has become familiar with the older and newer Finnish-Karelian-Ingrian singing traditions and the singing traditions of Finland and the surrounding areas and the singing styles of Finland's minorities
• Can improvise with different types of rhythms in the rhyme measures typical to singing traditions of the Finno-Baltic regions
• Has gained experience in both solo singing and polyphonic heterophony
• Can sing for instance ‘runolaulu’, ‘rekilaulu’, dance songs and ballads
• Understands the ‘runolaulu’ and ‘rekilaulu’ meter and can use them to create own song texts and melodies
• Is familiar with the historical socio-cultural contexts of the Finno-Baltic singing traditions

At least 3 places will be offered to the Open University. Open University participants will be selected for the course based on the background information provided in the application. In the application, the applicant will answer the following questions:

1. Tell briefly why you want to apply for the course/courses and (motivation) and what you expect from the studies.

2. Tell briefly about your background: studies, hobbies or work experience you have related to the course themes (e.g. studies at art institutes).

Students who enrol via Uniarts mobility studies must answer to the same questions as open university students and send the replies to course teacher via email.
