Production Flow and Layout Planning

The students are recommended to have basic understanding of companies real processes, but not mandatory. Prior knowledge of product and service production will enhance the student’s learning experience during the course.

After completing the course, the student will
• be familiar with the criteria for choosing a plant location and decision-making related to site selection.
• be familiar with the principles and means of improving production efficiency.
• learn to design a production facility layout.
• be familiar with principles of balancing the production line.
• be familiar with group technology and its application to improve productivity.
• learn what ergonomics is, how to apply it in production plants, and how it impacts layout planning.
• be familiar with the current developments in plant design.
• be familiar with methods and tools used in layout planning (e.g., systematic layout planning)
• gain a general understanding of what production plants may look like in the future and how digitization, for example, will influence plant design.

Furthermore, the course enhances critical and analytical thinking (assessment and interpretation of knowledge), collaborative skills (teamwork), written communication skills (assignment compilation, project work reporting), and problem-solving and decision-making skills (application of knowledge), enabling students to analyze and make informed decisions in production flow and layout planning across various industries.
