This course provides an introduction to the economic and policy dimensions of environmental and natural resource management. It explores the relationship between economic development, resource use, and environmental sustainability, focusing on market failures, externalities, and policy interventions. Students will examine the economic principles behind natural resource exploitation, climate change mitigation, and energy-environment interactions.
Key topics include policy instruments such as carbon pricing, emissions trading, and environmental taxation, as well as the role of institutions and global agreements in shaping environmental governance. The course also covers sustainable development, circular economy practices, and the transition to renewable energy. By the end of the course, students will have a strong understanding of the economic drivers of environmental issues and the policy tools available to promote sustainability.
