After completing the course, the student
• Knows the conceptual basis of education and lifelong learning,
• Understands the structure of formal education systems, different types of nonformal ed-ucation, and the role of informal learning and different types of learning spaces in the so-ciety and in individual lives
• Recognizes different research fields of educational sciences,
• Is familiar with the key research approaches and methodologies in educational sciences

Further information
The course can be completed in a flexible way but degree students in Lifelong Learning and Sustainable Development bachelor students must complete this course during the first year of studies. Lectures are provided in Joensuu in Autumn period (lecture materials available afterwards in course online environment). Online exams are available in December, March, and May.
