  • Presenting the main dilemmas in cultural policy discourse (21 strategic dilemmas from the Balancing Act from the Council of Europe)
  • Presenting the global tendencies in the Cultural Policy domain: UN, UNESCO, UNICEF, Council of Europe

Beskrivning

Undervisningsmetoder

The aim of the course is to prepare students to approach and understand the paradigms of cultural policy. It will present the cultural policy framework from different perspective, including the social scientific perspective. It is supported by a multidisciplinary perspective and explores key concepts such as dilemmas, instruments and models in cultural policy, then globalisation, digitalization, ecology, sustainability, ethics, well-being, etc. The course offers students an insight of the whole process of cultural policy: from forming and defining to its implementation. Critical examination of issues related to cultural policy is taken, focusing in particular on culturally and ecologically sustainable principles and practices.

Through the assignments, students will have an opportunity to apply creative/innovative approaches as well as critical thinking to gain the knowledge in cultural policy frameworks and trends.

During the course, students will have a chance to visit some institutions in Finland that are related to the topic of cultural policy, such as CUPORE, KUVI, City of Helsinki, etc.
