Introduction to Water Treatment Technologies

COMPULSORY PREREQUISITES

Students, who have not studied their bachelor's degree in LUT have to take course BJ02A0061 Laboratory safety course before taking this course.

RECOMMENDED PREREQUISITES

Chemistry knowledge.

Chemical engineering knowledge.

By the end of the course, it is expected that students will be able to:

· recognize the challenges facing humanity and the environment from water pollution sources (drinking water supplies and municipal/industrial wastewaters)

· identify the limitations of conventional water treatment procedures and justify the need for advanced technologies.

· be acquainted with the main advanced water treatment technologies (components' fabrication and/or assembly, operating and action modes, targeted pollutants and related regulations).

· solve problems by selecting suitable technology(ies) to remediate specific water pollution cases and be able to justify their decision.

· recognise, and later promote, the important role of advanced water treatment in the implementation of the emerging sustainable concepts of bioeconomy and circular economy in general, and biorefineries in specific.
