Completion methods
The course may be organized in different ways (contact studying/online lectures/blended learning). Please see the course page for each individual group for more information.
You are required to regularly attend classes (both contact studies and online), complete written homework assignments, and actively participate in classroom oral practice either in pairs or in small groups. This is a 3 ECTS course, which is equal to max 36 contact learning hours and about 45 hours of independent study. The Language Centre requires students to attend at least 75% of the classes.
Note: If this course is compulsory for your degree but you are unable to attend the course, it is possible to complete the course independently by studying the relevant course contents in the course books and taking a test. For more information see the course page on the exemption test.

Target groups
All faculties, international students, Finnish students who have not studied Swedish as Second National Language (in accordance with the requirements of Finnish educational system).
The course may also be offered as open university studies.
