Advanced English: Grammar (CEFR C1)

Prerequisites

Starting level CEFR C1(Öppnas i en ny flik).

The aim is for students to improve their accuracy in English. The focus is on written communication, particularly for academic purposes. Students will improve their ability to

• use various grammatical structures more precisely and more competently
• apply their knowledge of grammatical structures to writing in English
• recognise grammatical structures in texts and to explain why and how they have been used
• write texts in English.

Materials provided by both the teacher and the students will be used during the course.

Completion methods

There are different completion methods for the course; see the group-specific information for a particular group. Completion methods include contact learning and blended courses.

Courses based on contact learning include 24 contact hrs and 30 hrs of independent work. Blended courses include 54 hours of work and may include some contact learning.

Depending on the completion method, the course consists of in-class, online and independent work. The in-class sessions include individual, pair and group work.

The Language Centre requires 75% active participation in courses based on contact learning and completion of the agreed tasks by the deadline; 90% active participation in in-class sessions of blended/online courses and completion of the agreed tasks by the deadline.

Assessment practices and criteria

Assessment is based on the learning outcomes. Passing the course requires active participation and completion of the agreed tasks by the deadline. 

The course uses peer, self- and teacher evaluation.

Target groups

This course is intended for students of all faculties. 

This course does not fulfil the foreign language requirement in the Bachelor-level degree.

This course may be offered as an Open University course.
