Active Listening in English - Aktivt lyssnande på engelska (CEFR B1)

Prerequisites

Starting level CEFR B1(Öppnas i en ny flik).

The aim of this course is to learn about active listening as a valuable communication skill in interpersonal, study, and professional contexts. Students will strengthen their listening skills to become more attentive, responsive, and confident communicators in English.

By the end of the course, students will have:

• deepened their awareness of themselves as listeners in English
• learned strategies for active listening that support interaction
• explored resources for practicing active listening with or without a conversation partner
• built confidence as active users of English.

Materials provided by both the teacher and the students will be used during the course.

Completion methods

See the group-specific information for a particular group. Completion methods include contact learning and blended courses.

Courses based on contact learning include 24 contact hrs and 30 hrs of independent work. Blended courses include 54 hours of work and may include some contact learning.

Depending on the completion method, the course consists of in-class, online and independent work. The in-class sessions include individual, pair and group work.

The Language Centre requires 75% active participation in courses based on contact learning and completion of the agreed tasks by the deadline; 90% active participation in in-class sessions of blended/online courses and completion of the agreed tasks by the deadline.

Assessment practices and criteria

Assessment is based on the learning outcomes. Passing the course requires active participation and completion of the agreed tasks by the deadline.

The course uses peer, self- and teacher evaluation.

Target groups

This course will be offered as an Open University course.

This course does not fulfil the foreign language requirement in the Bachelor-level degree.
