This online Moodle course targets Master level students and offers an introduction to and academic discussion of the new field of study and research, Transcultural Flows, with a content focus on digital spaces and Asia-related case studies. Today, and ever more accelerated by the global pandemic, cultural and social transformations are increasingly related to changing media environments and growing media use. In these times of reflecting on the so-far existing theoretical and methodical frameworks and advancing the study of exceptionally promising new perspectives, Transcultural Flows research has become more prominent.
Within this theme, the course spotlights methods and theories. How can we study selected main themes in Digital Transcultural Flows research, in and via various media formats, such as social media, video games, etc.? What are adequate theoretical frameworks to study these subjects? This course uses international expert guest lectures and textual material. Each section introduces to one specific method, approach, or theory and walks you through it by discussing one selected case study for Digital Asian Transcultural Flows, with a focus on (a) specific Asian region(s).
