Develop your academic and professional English online through the theme Our Stories.This highly interactive, online course is organized around the theme Our Stories. We will develop English academic and professional skills by examining how personal stories can be used in academic research and communication, using a range of academic texts, interviews, podcasts and other media to spark discussions, writing, and research. We will explore how our own individual perspectives can be meaningfully integrated into the academic and professional work we produce. You should be genuinely interested in the theme to participate.
During course, you will develop your English communication skills through 1) independent online weekly tasks, 2) completion of a research project (essay and presentation) on a topic of your choice, 3) weekly forum discussions or meetings with peers, and 4) free-choice independent work. Throughout the course you will towards your own personal goals.
This course does not include Zoom or classroom lectures, but you will have live meetings with a group of peers, either face-to-face or via video call.
This is a pass-fail, four-credit course. Self-assessment, teacher assessment, and peer feedback will be used to support your personal learning goals. Credits are earned through participation. To gain credit for this course, you must actively participate and complete all tasks by the stated deadlines. The participation requirement is 100%. There is no exam.
A note on technology: To participate in this course, you will need access to a computer with a camera, microphone and internet connection. You will need to be able to create video and audio recordings, upload files, and share files from a cloud service (such as Google Drive, One Drive, or Dropbox).
