This is an advanced-level course in a Master’s degree programme and requires suitable prior university-level studies in the field. Please check any prerequisite requirements under “Prerequisites.”

The course delves into current research in social and health management. The core content consists of recordings where the course responsible person discusses with the authors of selected master's theses, doctoral dissertations, and scientific articles. The discussions examine in detail the theoretical frameworks used in these studies, the methodological choices made, and the research results achieved, particularly their practical relevance in the development and decision-making of social and health care. Students deepen their knowledge by selecting a research theme of interest and a related scientific article. Under the guidance of the course responsible person, each student prepares an academic poster on their chosen article, which is available for other students to review.

After completing the course, the student will understand the diverse and extensive research conducted in social and health management and form a comprehensive view of current research trends and key research themes in the field. Additionally, the student will understand the methodological choices underlying research processes and their justifications, as well as the connection between theory and empiricism in the research process. The student will develop skills in reading and critically analyzing scientific texts and summarizing essential content. The course strengthens the student's study skills, particularly supporting the completion of the master's thesis and independent scientific thinking.

The course deepens the mastery of the following common learning objectives of the major in Social and Health Management: the ability to understand comprehensively the welfare system, the organizations connected to it, and the changing operational environment from the perspectives of resilience, systemics, and complexity; the ability to make future-oriented decisions and respond to the needs of service users; the ability to utilize the principles of deliberative and participatory decision-making and digital skills; and the ability to promote citizens' well-being by understanding the tensions related to impact-based approaches, value creation, and ethics.

Additionally, the student will develop problem-solving and critical thinking skills, as well as digital skills. In terms of sustainable development, the goal is to learn to develop effective, responsible, and transparent institutions at all levels, to promote health and well-being in society, and to foster partnerships between the public and private sectors and civil society.
