Introduction to Statistics

The course AYORMS1030 Introduction to Financial Mathematics is recommended / equivalent skills.

After the course students master presenting statistical data and know basic principles of statistical inference. The purpose of the course is to introduce the student to descriptive statistics, probability calculus and statistical inference.

Additionally, the course develops:

• problem-solving and decision-making (choice of appropriate modeling approach)
• analytical and critical thinking (choice of appropriate modeling approach)
• digital skills (MS Excel)

There is partial overlap with the contents of the courses STAT1020 Tilastotieteen johdantokurssi and MATH1170 Probability and Statistics. Students can obtain only obtain credits for one of the courses STAT1020, STAT1030, or MATH1170.
