Basic Course in Statistics

Mathematics skills equivalent to the Finnish 'basic syllabus' .

After completing the course, the student understands the stages and key basic concepts of statistical research. The student is able to describe empirical data using distributions of individual variables and relationships between two variables, making use of tables, statistical graphs, and descriptive statistics. The student has a basic understanding of probability theory and theoretical distributions. The student can apply basic methods of statistical inference and to interpret the results of statistical tests and analyses in basic applied context.

In addition, the course develops communication skills (oral, written, and presentation skills through weekly exercises and classes), analytical and critical thinking (selection of appropriate descriptive methods and statistical inference techniques, as well as interpretation of statistical analysis results), and digital skills (Excel).

The course is intended for students in the Bachelor's program in Administrative Sciences and for those students in the Bachelor's program in Economic Sciences whose study track is Management and Orginisation, International Business, Marketing management, Digital marketing or Business Law. The course content overlaps with STAT1030 Introduction to Statistics and MATH1170 Probability and Statistics, and a student can only complete one of these courses."
