In the course the basics of mathematics are considered. Part of the considered subjects are of a more abstract nature (such as integration, continuity and solving systems of equations), whereas the other part is more applied (such as discounting (present value), annuity, operations research and price indices).

After the course, students can derive and integrate polynomial functions and exponential functions, formulate and solve a model (LP model, stock model, profit maximization), discount a cash item and calculate the present value of the cash flow, calculate the annuity of installment loans, compare the profitability of investment projects by various measures, solve a set of linear equations, calculate with matrices, determine the determinant of a matrix and the inverse of a matrix. The course develops critical and analytical thinking, problem-solving and decision-making skills and oral skills (presentations in the calculus exercise class).
