Social and Health Care as a part of the (Finnish Concept for) Comprehensive Security

Recommended course: HTM3400 Change, Leadership, and Complexity.

After completing the course, the student will understand the role of social and health care in various disruptions and emergencies and be prepared to participate in preparedness planning in their organization.

The course deepens the mastery of the following common learning objectives of the major in Social and Health Management: the ability to understand comprehensively the welfare system, the organizations connected to it, and the changing operational environment from the perspectives of resilience, systemics, and complexity; the ability to make future-oriented decisions and respond to the needs of service users; the ability to utilize the principles of deliberative and participatory decision-making and digital skills; and the ability to promote citizens' well-being by understanding the tensions related to impact-based approaches, value creation, and ethics.

Additionally, the student will develop problem-solving and critical thinking skills, as well as digital skills. In terms of sustainable development, the goal is to learn to develop effective, responsible, and transparent institutions at all levels, to promote health and well-being in society, and to foster partnerships between the public and private sectors and civil society.
