Introduction to operations strategy (comparison of operations management and operations strategy, hierarchy of operations), theoretical foundations of operations strategy (Four-stage model of operations, four perspectives of operations strategy – top down, bottom up, market requirements, and operations resources, operations strategy decision areas and matrix), strategic role and objectives of operations, competitive priorities and trade-offs, operations strategy frameworks and tools (Sand Cone model, process model of manufacturing strategy, RAL concept), and ethics and sustainability in operations (e.g., transparency, accountability, ethical sourcing), Triple Bottom Line.

Furthermore, the course introduces quantitative (Sense-and-Respond method) and qualitative (scenario planning) methods for operations strategy planning, implementation, and monitoring. Each of these methods is complemented with working manuals.
