Macroprudential Policy and Financial Stability

The purpose of the course is to develop students’ knowledge of rapidly developing macroprudential policy managed by Central Banks in the EU. These policies will ultimately cover the whole financial system important in international risk evaluation.
• The purpose of macroprudential policy is to lower the probability of financial crises and limit impacts of crises on the financial system and
macroeconomy.
• Ex ante policy - Prevent and mitigate the crisis in a forward-looking manner - Different from crisis management and resolution
• Authority has the power to require financial institutions to hold “additional” capital buffers or set other restrictions - Banks also have to fulfil
“traditional” capital requirements
Course analyses the main roots of the economic crisis and the impact of the economic situation, especially in Euro Area Member States. General debate and problems related to slow economic growth in Europe.
