Human Centered Public Management

This is an advanced-level course in a master’s degree programme and requires intermediate level knowledge of administrative sciences prior to starting the course.

Human-centeredness has been recognized as one of the most important competencies for public managers in a constantly changing environment. After completing the course, the student understands the significance of human-centeredness as a cross-cutting theme at various levels and processes of public administration. The student can interpret the skills required in human-centered public management and is prepared to examine the development of public administration, organizations, and services from a human-centered perspective, and is capable of developing solutions to various management situations with people and humanity at the center.

The course deepens the mastery of the following common learning objectives of the major in Public Policy and Management: the ability to analyze and interpret public activities and their operational environment from the perspective of organizations and regions; the ability to lead organizations, regions, and networks based on knowledge and aiming for sustainability; and the ability to develop the operations of organizations, regions, and networks considering their specific characteristics. Additionally, the student develops problem-solving and interaction skills. In terms of sustainable development, the goal is to learn to develop effective, responsible, and transparent institutions at all levels, to promote well-being in society, and to foster partnerships between the public and private sectors and civil society.
