Social Welfare Law

The course AYHTK1300 Legal Framework for Public Action (Julkisen toiminnan oikeudelliset erityispiirteet), 6 ECTS, provides the necessary preliminary knowledge, but completing it is not a necessary prerequisite for participation in this period.

The student becomes familiar with welfare law research, which focuses on legal regulation related to economic subsistence, social well-being, and physical and mental health at different stages of an individual's life. The student understands the position and significance of social fundamental rights in the legal system. The student knows the structure of welfare services organization and the supervisory authorities, as well as the key procedural rights of the client.

The course strengthens the following common competence goals of the major in Public Law: the ability to evaluate public activities from a legal perspective, the ability to identify and anticipate key legal issues in public activities, and the ability to combine legal expertise with practice. Additionally, the student develops problem-solving and critical thinking skills, as well as interaction skills in a digital environment. Regarding sustainable development, the goal is to learn to develop effective, responsible, and transparent institutions at all levels, to promote partnerships between the public, private sector, and civil society, and to ensure healthy lives and well-being for all ages.
