Energy Economics and Sustainable Growth

The aim of this course is to give students an overview of the demand for and supply of energy, and the related economic, environmental and policy issues. The topics to be covered include: economics of energy demand and energy efficiency issues, introduction to economics of externalities and climate economics, EU policy experience in energy and climate policies, the (non)renewable energy supply side investment decisions, electricity power market systems and sustainable development.

The course equips students with a broad understanding of the economy in the context of energy production, utilization, and green transition. Specifically, it provides understanding on he economic, environmental and societal sustainability and the UN’s SDGs (SDG-7 and SDG-13). Guest lectures from industry are incorporated into the course equipping students with the broader societal and environmental implications of the latest practices and trends in energy innovations and investments, and how these contribute to the SDGs (especially SGD-9).
