Introduction to Empirical Research in Economics

The course will shine light on the basic concepts, methods and problems of empirical research in economics. The course covers i.a. compiling research material, describing and analysing the data, building regression models, and interpreting the results of regression. The course covers estimation through the method of the least square and testing out the hypotheses. The course also covers the use of nonlinear and binary explanatory variables in regression and instrumental variables and experimental research frames in the research of economics. The latter part of the course covers the time series analysis, forecasting, and VAR models. Stata is used on the course. An empirical research is conducted as a part of the course.
