Distributed Energy Generation Systems

Objectives:
Sustainable energy transition requires integration of major technological changes in energy generation by renewable energy sources; energy storage for resilience; and energy savings on the demand side. This course presents students with a broad understanding and focus of renewable energy generation and delivery.
The energy sector is undergoing a profound transformation with the widespread adoption of distributed generation systems and renewable technologies. This course offers an exploration of distributed generation technologies and their operational principles. Renewable energy generation may encompass solar energy, wind power, geothermal energy, bioenergy and other renewable sources, with the specific selection varying from year to year. Additionally, the course explores sector coupling.

Learning Outcomes:
• understand distributed energy generation systems
• learn major types of renewable energy generators (e.g. solar photovoltaic and wind energy)
• understand the flexibility mechanism of sector coupling
•understand the ethical questions of decentralized energy production
