Contexts of Media and Communication Studies

This is an advanced level course in the Communication Studies, which requires completed basic and intermediate studies in the Communication Studies.

The course offers master’s students the possibility to deepen their knowledge on selected research areas of media and communication studies. By the end of the course, they will be able to critically examine and assess features of communication and media with regard to the institutional and cultural conditions of the environment, and the social and cultural structures of media. By choosing a specific literature package, they can specialize in a research theme or a context that helps them write the literature review for their Master’s thesis. The course topics connect media and communication with social and environmental sustainability, addressing issues such as social justice and algorithmic power, and communication about climate change. The course is advanced, and a foundational understanding of media and/or communication studies is required to comprehend its topics.

Right to participate: Exchange Students in Commucation: Qualifications for the course VIMA3021 Contexts of Media and Communications Studies are basic knowledge of Communication Studies, e.g. an introduction course.
