Basics of Energy Technology

There are no prerequisites for this course. It is sufficient that the student understands the basic principles of physics, knows how to use computers to perform tasks, and has sufficient knowledge of the Finnish language. All assignments of the course and related instructions are in Finnish and they are also answered in Finnish. The course is especially designed for students at the beginning of engineering studies, upper secondary school or professional technical education level, as well as for students studying through the Open University of Applied Sciences.

After completing the Basics of Energy Technology course, the student will be able to list the key concepts of energy technology, name the most important energy sources, compare different energy production methods and their environmental impacts, and analyse energy consumption data. The student is able to explain the basic principles of energy technology and describe the operating principles of different energy generation methods.

The student is able to apply the knowledge acquired to simple calculations of energy production and consumption and to utilise the principles of energy efficiency in everyday life. The aim is for the student to be able to identify interesting study and career opportunities in the field of energy technology.

The course consists of modules that contain the course topics grouped by subject area. Each module contains both theoretical materials and related assignments. Moodle has clear instructions for completing the course and tips for creating stack assignment packages.
