Finnish 1B

Completed Finnish 1A or corresponding knowledge and skills.

The course is intended for students who have the required starting level at the beginning of the instruction. Courses must be completed in order, as language skills always build on what was learned at the previous level. The teacher may reject the registration if the student does not have the required starting level. The student can briefly describe themselves and ask for and provide information in Finnish. They can respond to standard phrases and handle daily recurring situations, partly with the support of an interaction partner. They understand simple and brief oral and written messages and can produce them themselves. The student can briefly describe their current and future activities. They know basic Finnish vocabulary and structures and are familiar with everyday Finnish life.

The objective is to attain the level A1.2 of the Common European Framework of Reference.

Online materials

Priority for the course is given to degree students in English-taught bachelor's and master's programs for whom the course is a required part of their degree. The course is also open to other international degree students, doctoral researchers, and staff. If there is space available, international exchange students may also participate.

The course is intended for students who have successfully completed the Finnish 1A course or have equivalent skills. If you are unsure whether the course is suitable for you, you can take the placement test on Moodle before registering. There are other Finnish as a second language courses available for more advanced students.

Accreditations or exemptions are not available for the course or parts of the course.
