Functional Approach to Language Teaching

Learning outcomes:
After completing the course, the student

• understands the concepts of functional language and functional pedagogy
• understands the concept language awareness
• understand the significance of language and broad learning environments in learning, studying and working life
• understand the importance of mother tongue and multilingualism as part of a person's identity
• is able to identify and analyze linguistic practices in his / her field from the point of view of language awareness
• understand the importance of one's own teaching subject as a Finnish language learning environment;
• is able to reflect and develop his / her own pedagogy from the perspectives of functionality and language awareness.

Offering information:
The course is offered both as a part of undergraduate education and as a part of the Open university education. The primary target group of Open university students are those who work in education and teaching and who encounter S2 learners in their work and, for example, public service interpreters, people who work in teaching and education and others who work in a multicultural environment. The course can also be completed by students who have a continuous right to study.

Language of instruction Finnish. The course is an alternative with the Internship (5 cr) and L2 Finnish Learner Competence Assessment and Learning Support (5 cr) courses.
