Basics of Mechanics

After completing the course, the student can:

• use SI – units in calculations and do unit conversions
• analyze different graphical presentations
• use vectors to describe motion and forces
• solve the distance, speed and acceleration of an object in a practical situation and make a graph of the situation as a function of time
• draw a free body diagram of a practical situation
• form an equation of motion according to Newton´s laws from a free body diagram and apply it to a practical situation
• define the following concepts and make calculations related to them: speed, acceleration, force, friction, work, energy, power, rotational frequency
• identify the connection between circular and straightforward motion
