Basics of Nursing and Simulation

Content

The teaching is scheduled for the spring semester of 2026.

Content:
Professional interaction and care relationship
Care process, decision-making, and documentation
Patient safety, data protection, and ergonomics
Nursing support methods and assistance with daily activities
Monitoring the patient's condition and basic vital functions
Emergency first aid and dealing with death
Nutrient needs and significance
Diet according to nutritional recommendations at different ages

Working methods

Diverse methods including activating in-person, online, virtual, and simulation methods as well as classroom exercises. Professional practice is learned in multidisciplinary teams in both basic and specialized care situations.

Student's use of time and effort

10 ECTS = 270 hours of student work.
Individual and group assignments, online courses 2 ECTS = 54 hours
Competency tests 1 ECTS = 27 hours
Classroom training and simulation 5 ECTS, HOSI simulation = 135 hours, of which 52 hours are contact teaching
Exam and preparation 1 ECTS = 27 hours
Nutrition 1 ECTS = 27 hours
Active guidance sessions 2 x 3 hours
7 theme days totaling 16 hours
Start of group work 2 x 2 hours

Teaching methods

Diverse methods including activating in-person, online, virtual, and simulation methods as well as classroom exercises. Professional practice is learned in multidisciplinary teams in both basic and specialized care situations.

Alternative ways of completing the course

Practical nurses can have part of their classroom training credited through work experience or a skills demonstration. Detailed instructions can be found in the ItsLearning learning environment on the Internship Hours Credit Form.
