This course consists of a series of lectures about the history of film music from the silent film era to modern day cinema with an emphasis on observing how film music affects cinematic storytelling. Lecture topics include: Silent films, the golden age of Hollywood, the leitmotif, film noir, horror films, the film musical, science fiction films, japanese anime, the technology of modern film music production, and others.
