Basic studies

In the seminar, students read and describe scientific texts and practise scientific discussion and writing.

In the seminar, students 1) read and describe various types of social scientific texts, their approaches and genres (national and international scientific articles, edited volumes, monographs and research reports), 2) learn to understand and conceptualise social phenomena, 3) practise scientific argumentation and criticism through discussion, 4) write scientific text based on literature and their own observations, and 5) work as responsible group members.

The student knows the university's seminar practices and study methods, masters the basics of scientific discussion and writing, and is able to structure social science phenomena and form research questions from them in a guided manner. After the seminar, the student will be able to identify important research topics in the social sciences and to recognise the basic features of a scientific text. The student will be able to produce a scientific text in a group and to engage in scientific discussion with others.
