Classics of Philosophy

On suositeltavaa, että Johdatus filosofian historiaan on suoritettu ennen tätä opintojaksoa.

Students will have a good knowledge of one or two classic texts in the history of philosophy. He/she will be able to read, with commentary where necessary, classical texts whose style and methodology may differ considerably from contemporary philosophy. Identify the philosophical problems addressed in the text and the philosophical method used. After working with a classical text, he/she will be able to provide background and depth on a range of systematic issues addressed in other modules.

Opintojakso suoritetaan valitsemalla esimerkiksi yksi seuraavista klassikoista, muutkin klassikot ovat mahdollisia. Lista muodostuu ehdotuksista. 1900-luvun alun jäkeiset teokset eivät ole vielä klassikkoja. Kommentaarin käyttö on vapaaehtoista mutta vahvasti suositeltavaa. Teoksesta tai teoksista sovitaan aina erikseen vastuuopettajan kanssa.
