This article explores how to create real-time data collection systems using Industrial IoT (IIoT) devices and supporting server environments. At Savonia’s Microkatu campus, Raspberry Pis connect to 5G routers to gather signal quality metrics, then periodically push this data to an on-premises database via HTTP APIs. Data scientists access it through REST APIs on an NVIDIA DGX platform for analytics and AI-driven inference. The system supports immediate insights from live data and long-term model training. Implementing such IIoT frameworks demands careful planning of device procurement, integration, and a flexible backend to simplify adding new sensors while avoiding scaling issues.
