Language skills I

Students are able to analyse the content and structure of everyday texts and easy academic texts and write them themselves. Students will familiarise themselves with and use the key vocabulary associated with the types of text covered in the course. Students will be able to discuss various topics and give a presentation in German. They can speak freely in different areas (formal & informal) and in different social forms (pair & group discussions), present facts in an understandable way and use the appropriate register.

Students know the basic features of German phonetics and the most important differences between German and Finnish pronunciation. They are familiar with the standardised pronunciation of German sounds and can largely use them themselves and correctly place accents at word and sentence level. Furthermore, students use appropriate sentence intonation and can interpret it receptively.

1st academic year, autumn term, 1st and 2nd period; 4 h lessons per week

Compulsory for all major and minor subject students
