Online citizen science

5 cr

The growing use of openly available digital data has raised a need to tackle the ethical principles in the use of data concerning Indigenous peoples and other minorities. Especially when the public is creating the data through crowdsourcing and citizen science, there is a need for training and guidelines on how to collect and present data. According to the Cambridge Online Dictionary, citizen science is something done by ‘ordinary people, often for or with the help of scientists’. Hence citizen scientists are amateurs or non-professionals. This course “Online Citizen Science” tackles relevant and timely questions on what kinds on ethical questions should be taken into consideration when participants in digital citizen science collect and use data involving minority groups and children.
