Programming 2

The required prerequisite is that the learning outcomes of the course "Programming 1" are accomplished (basic programming skills).

After completion of this course, the student will be able to:

• explain the principles of object paradigm (e.g., class, object, encapsulation, information hiding, composition, inheritance, polymorphism)
• master the basic use of programming tools (such as compiler / Integrated Development Environment (IDE))
• make use of the structures learned in the courses in a variety of ways
• handle exceptions
• process files
• utilize collection classes and generics
• implement Java classes according to the given instructions
• test programs as well as analyze and interpret error situations to correct them
• interpret the structure and functionality of classes from code
• describe the basics of the UML class diagram and its connection to the implemented code
• recognize the purpose of version control tools.

The programming language is Java. The course has two parallel implementations, in Finnish and in English (only for the DICE students). Some course material is in English only.
