Introduction to Digital Humanities

Digitalisation has transformed research in the human sciences. Digital methods allow for the analysis of large amounts of data, while human scientists are needed to study a digitalising society.

In this course, students will hear examples of digital humanities research from researchers in different fields. Topics include visitor images of Chernobyl and gamification as a research tool. The course will also offer perspectives on digital work-life skills.

On completion of the course, the student will:

be familiar with research issues, methods, and perspectives in digital humanities
become familiar with the key concepts and key data sets in digital humanities
become familiar with the digital tools used in humanities research and the theoretical and ethical underpinnings of research (e.g. in relation to open science and data)
gain an understanding of the types of human sciences research that can be produced using computer-assisted methods
