Introduction to Audiovisual Medias (OPEN UNI)

No prerequisites, except adequate proficiency in Finnish

Upon completing the course, the students have gained an overview of the technological and content-related
characteristics, history and development of audiovisual medias. The students can identify research-based premises, industrial and economic interests, and social and societal dimensions connected to audiovisual medias. The students will understand the role of film within the fields of art, entertainment and audiovisual media culture, and will be able to assess the significance of changing film culture at the local, national and
international levels. After completing the course, the students will be able to analyze audiovisual source material using analytical approaches at a basic level. After finishing the course, the students may also delve deeper into the topics presented during the course in the subsequent courses of the study subject.

This course is a part of obligatory studies (total 15 ECTS credits) included in the minor studies (total 25 ECTS credits) of Film and Creative Medias. This course is recommended for beginning the studies.
