German Speaking Countries

Upon completing the course, students have general knowledge of German-speaking countries. They are familiar with the most important stages in history and have an overview of social and political systems today and in the past. They are familiar with important aspects of everyday and high culture in German-speaking countries and can critically examine cultural characteristics and stereotypes, comparing the cultures of German-speaking countries with those in Finland. They are familiar with the most important German-language media and are able to search for information about German-speaking countries themselves and discuss and evaluate this information critically. Students expand and consolidate their vocabulary in various subject areas (history, society, politics, geography, economy, culture).
Students can give an oral presentation in German on a topic of their choice relating to German-speaking countries.
