Environmental science and technology

No prerequisites.

After completing the course, the student is able to describe the current state of the environment as well as future perspectives. The student can identify the most important emissions to the atmosphere, water ways and soil caused by human activities. The student is also able to describe the impacts emissions have on the environment, and the student can explain the most significant global and regional environmental problems. In addition, the student is able to describe what is meant by life-cycle thinking, and is able to apply it when studying the impacts of various human activities on the environment. The student is also able to justify why sustainable solutions based on life cycle thinking are important for the future. After completing the course, the student is also able to identify ethical issues related to work tasks in the environmental sector. The student is also able to work constructively and responsibly in a team and contribute to the achievement of the team’s goals.

Language of instruction: Finnish.
Timing: Implementation in spring semester in 4th period.
Target group: Bachelor's degree students of Environmental Engineering, Sustainable Development minor students, and other minor subject students.
Others: The course is closely linked to the following Agenda 2030 Sustainable Development Goals: SDG9, SDG11, SDG12, SDG14, SDG15.
