Promotion of Oral Health Care

PART 1.ORAL HEALTH CARE (3 ECTS)
I describe the importance of oral health and oral self-care for the well-being of clients of different ages.
I apply the knowledge base of oral health care when guiding clients.
Identify key quality requirements for oral care equipment and oral care products.
I guide clients in the selection and use of oral care appliances and oral care products.
I guide clients in the use of xylitol.
I describe oral hygiene outcome assessment methods.

PART 2. NUTRITION AND ORAL HEALTH (2 ECTS)
I identify the links between key nutritional factors and oral health in different age groups.
I identify the associations of different diets with oral health.
I describe the importance of healthy eating habits for oral health.
I act in accordance with nutritional recommendations when guiding clients in maintaining oral health.
I prepare a nutritional assessment and instructions for the client based on the results.

PART 3.INTOXICANTS AND ORAL HEALTH (1,5 ECTS)
I describe the link between substance abuse (tobacco products, electronic cigarettes, alcohol, drugs) and oral health.
Explain the impact of substance abuse on general health.
Describe the role of addiction in substance use.
I use substance abuse related guidelines and guidance material in oral health care guidance.
I guide and encourage clients to be substance-free.

PARTS 1-2: Recommended reading and topical material will be indicated at the beginning of the course.

PART 3.INTOXICANTS AND ORAL HEALTH (1,5 ECTS)
Relevant literature, articles and other materials provided during the course, online courses/-tasks.
