Wetlands act as water storage and retain water, bind nutrients and solids, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and provide diverse habitats. Biochar, on the other hand, functions as an additional filter material in water purification. Biochar loaded with nutrients can be returned to the soil as a carbon store and/or to agricultural value chains.
