Me and my journey in mathematics

Me and My Journey in Mathematics is not a traditional course focusing on mathematical content, but rather centres on the conscious development of the student’s relationship with mathematics through self-reflection. The aim is to support the student’s study skills, mathematical self-efficacy, and confidence in their own learning, as well as to provide tools for this purpose.

The course is particularly suited to students who have experienced uncertainty, anxiety, or conflicting feelings towards mathematics, but it is also open to everyone, including those wishing to enhance even demanding mathematical work.

This is a two-credit online course in which the student examines and structures their own relationship with mathematics. The course integrates consideration of emotions, self-image, and various approaches in learning mathematics, and offers tools for both understanding and applied work. The student’s reflective answers are compiled into a narrative whole, making the learning process visible and supporting experiential learning. These narratives may also be utilised, with attention to data protection and anonymity, in the creation of general materials on the theme.

The course is designed to be completed independently (with assessment of the compilation being separate), but opportunities for peer support and collective reflection are available in the spirit of group learning.
