Studying takes place on the Moodle platform. Moodle is divided into six modules. The themes of the modules are:
Start here (study unit information)
The welfare state
Population ageing
Ageing policy
Conceptions of age
Final assignment
Learner's time use and workload
The scope of the study unit is 2 ECTS credits, which corresponds to approximately 54 hours of student work. The study unit is open until 9 August 2026. Within this period, it can be completed according to one’s own schedule as independent online study, regardless of time and place.
The learning materials and recommended literature can be found in the Moodle
A student confirms their place on the study unit implementation by being present when teaching begins. If, due to illness, a student is unable to attend at the start of teaching, they may also confirm their study place by informing the teacher in advance. If an enrolled student does not participate in the implementation, the teacher responsible for the study unit will remove the student from the implementation within two weeks of the start of the studies. (Metropolia University of Applied Sciences Ltd’s Study Regulations (Section 16).)
Use of artificial intelligence in the study unit
Please note that learning assignments must draw on sources that are appropriate for and/or specified in the study unit’s objectives, and that artificial intelligence may support your own thinking. The text of learning assignments therefore cannot be produced using artificial intelligence. If you use artificial intelligence in learning assignments, this must be clearly stated. The guidance can be found on the Student’s Desktop under instructions: https://opiskelija.oma.metropolia.fi/group/pakki/opiskelijan-opas/ohjeet-ja-saannot(Opens in a new tab)
Credit transfer for the study unit (AHOT process):
Applications are addressed to the study unit’s responsible teacher, who identifies the competence (processes the application). The identification of prior learning takes place in two stages in accordance with Metropolia’s guidelines, the degree regulations, and the study regulations. After processing the application, the study unit’s responsible teacher forwards the student’s application to the degree programme lead for recognition of competence (who makes the decision).
Decision on individual learning arrangements
If a student has a decision on individual learning arrangements that affects completion of the study unit, the student must contact the study unit’s responsible teacher immediately after the enrolment period for the study unit ends.
Changes to the timetable for contact teaching may occur.
