The course includes introduction of welding technology and laser processing, basics of typical arc and laser welding processes as well as principles of their utilization and applications in production engineering industry.

The course comprises lectures and laboratory exercises, of which themes are:

Arc welding processes
Other welding processes and welding mechanization
Weldability of metal materials and welding quality
Laser processing techniques, equipment and applications
Laser welding techniques, equipment and applications

The aim of the course is to familiarize the student with the welding technology and processes as well as laser processing techniques and applications. After having completed and passed this course, the student is able to:

recognize and compare common welding processes applied in metal and engineering industry,
understand practices of welding preparation procedures,
define suitable welding process(es) for different metal materials and applications,
compare manual and mechanized welding,
identify fundamental principles of materials' weldability and welding quality,
understand principles of different laser processing techniques and applications,
recognize basic features of laser welding equipment and processes,
define typical laser-based additive manufacturing processes and applications,
utilize the knowledge further in other production engineering fields and tasks.
