Home Dwelling Older People and Age Friendliness
5 cr
The home of an older person as their living environment intertwines their current life situation with their life history, including memories, traditions, and social relationships. When an older person requires external help and support in everyday life, the home also becomes, in part, an operational environment for support and services. However, everyday life should continue in a way that remains familiar, safe, and meaningful for the older person.
Course topics include:
- The home of the older person as a living environment
- Individual dimensions of the home and their significance for the older person
- Needs, resources, and healthy ageing of older people living in their own homes
- Ethical and safety-related issues related to living at home and supporting home living in old age
- Forms and solutions of support and services for older people living at home and their development needs from an age-friendly perspective
The course is intended for students pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Applied Gerontology (UAS) or those considering applied gerontology studies in the future. The course is also suitable for other social and health care students and professionals, as well as for anyone interested in the topic regardless of their educational or professional background.
