Data center electrical systems

There are no formal prerequisite requirements for this course module, and it is accessible to participants from a wide range of backgrounds. You may have a technical education or work experience in fields such as HVAC, electrical engineering, construction, or software development, but this is not required.
The course is also suitable for students with other educational backgrounds who are interested in pursuing a career in the data center industry. The content has been designed to ensure that you can successfully engage with the material and acquire the key competencies regardless of your prior level of expertise.

After completing the course module, you will understand the scale of electricity consumption in data centers and the associated costs, as well as how electricity usage is distributed across different functions. You will be familiar with the fundamental principles of power supply and distribution in data centers, including cabling solutions and power quality requirements.
You will understand the importance, operation, use, and maintenance of UPS systems and backup generators as part of ensuring operational reliability. You will gain basic knowledge of battery banks and energy storage and understand their role in the data center environment.
In addition, you will develop an understanding of the principles of the electricity market, the opportunities for data centers to participate in demand response, as well as the most common electrical system fault scenarios and the associated redundancy solutions.

You will also find all course assignments in Reppu, along with clear instructions for their completion and submission. In addition, you are free to utilize other materials from reliable sources when preparing essays and other submitted work. When using sources, you are expected to adhere to generally accepted principles of good academic practice in source use and referencing.
