Write in English: From Idea to Text (CEFR B1)

The aim of this course is for students to:

• feel more confident and capable as writers of English
• find writing in English more enjoyable and accessible
• gain practical tools for approaching different kinds of writing
• deepened their awareness of themselves as writers.

  By the end of the course, students will have created a short portfolio of their own writing in English, including several short pieces and one longer text that reflects their personal interests and growth as writers.

Materials provided by both the teacher and the students will be used during the course.

Completion methods

See the group-specific information for a particular group. Completion methods include contact learning and blended courses.

Courses based on contact learning include 24 contact hrs and 30 hrs of independent work. Blended courses include 54 hours of work and may include some contact learning.

Depending on the completion method, the course consists of in-class, online and independent work. The in-class sessions include individual, pair and group work.

The Language Centre requires 75% active participation in courses based on contact learning and completion of the agreed tasks by the deadline; 90% active participation in in-class sessions of blended/online courses and completion of the agreed tasks by the deadline.

Assessment practices and criteria

Assessment is based on the learning outcomes. Passing the course requires active participation and completion of the agreed tasks by the deadline.

The course uses peer, self- and teacher evaluation.

Target groups

This course will be offered as an Open University course.

This course does not fulfil the foreign language requirement in the Bachelor-level degree.
